Checking the status of an application in Sinarm
Track your firearm application with the Polícia Federal (Federal Police) using the application number and CPF, on the Consultar Andamento de Processos page.
The Polícia Federal offers three checks: Sinarm Defesa Pessoal (possession, carry and transport documents for self defense issued from 22 April 2019), Sinarm-CAC (documents for collectors, sport shooters and hunters) and SEI (official letters and documents from the Sistema Eletrônico de Informações, the electronic information system).
Go to gov.br/pf, Armas menu, Verificar Autenticidade de Documentos. Do not use links or QR codes sent by others without checking that the address that opens ends in gov.br or pf.gov.br.
Click the button for the system that issued the document (Sinarm-CAC, Sinarm Defesa Pessoal or SEI) and fill in the verification details the page asks for, copying the printed code exactly.
Check the holder's name, the firearm's serial number, make, model and caliber, and the document number and expiry date. A single mismatch is already a reason to stop.
Under Decreto 11.615/2023, a firearm registered in Sinarm can only be handed over to the buyer after authorization from the Polícia Federal. A genuine document does not replace that authorization.
Do not pay for or receive the firearm. Keep the messages and copies and contact the Polícia Federal firearms control office (delegacia) in your region. Forging a public document is a crime.
Where to file the request: Verify authenticity at the Polícia Federal (Federal Police) (opens in a new tab)
To find out whether a firearm document issued by the Polícia Federal (Federal Police) is genuine, use the official Verificar Autenticidade de Documentos (verify document authenticity) page at gov.br/pf. It checks documents from Sinarm Defesa Pessoal, Sinarm-CAC and SEI. Checking before trusting helps avoid scams with altered documents, which are common in used firearm sales.
Since 2019, Sinarm (Sistema Nacional de Armas, the national firearms system) documents have been issued electronically. IN DG/PF 201/2021 requires the authenticity of these documents to be confirmed on the Polícia Federal website. Instead of trusting the paper, you check the details directly against the official database.
There are three lookups:
Buyers and sellers of used firearms, heirs, stores, shooting clubs, instructors, accredited psychologists and anyone who receives a document and wants to confirm it is genuine before acting.
