Checking the status of an application in Sinarm

Track your firearm application with the Polícia Federal (Federal Police) using the application number and CPF, on the Consultar Andamento de Processos page.

Required documents

  • Application number (shown on the receipt generated at the end of the electronic form and in the confirmation email)
  • CPF (Brazilian taxpayer number) of the applicant (or CNPJ, the company tax number, for a company)
  • For CAC applications: silver or gold level gov.br account
  • Scanned files to respond to requests, when applicable (for example, certificates, reports or receipts)

Step by step

  1. Find out which system the application was filed in

    Personal defense applications (purchase, registration, renewal, transfer, transit permit, incident and carry license) are in Sinarm Defesa Pessoal. CAC applications filed up to the migration stay in Sinarm-CAC until the final decision. New CAC applications, for services already migrated, are filed and tracked on Portal PF.

  2. Open the official status page

    Go to gov.br/pf, Armas (Firearms) menu, Consultar Andamento de Processos (check application status) option. The page has two buttons: one for Sinarm-CAC and another for Sinarm Defesa Pessoal. Type the address in the browser instead of using links received by message.

  3. Enter the application number and CPF

    In Sinarm Defesa Pessoal, the check asks for the application number and the applicant's CPF or CNPJ. It works for applications filed online from 22 April 2019. In Sinarm-CAC and Portal PF, access is with the gov.br account.

  4. Read the status and notifications

    All communications are electronic. If a request (exigência, a request for a document or clarification) appears, respond within the stated deadline. For purchase applications, IN DG/PF 201/2021 allows ten days to complete the documentation, or the application is archived.

  5. Attach documents through the status page

    The document upload page can be accessed at the end of the form or later, through the status check. Send legible and complete files, one document per file whenever possible.

  6. Print the result or the GRU

    Once the application is approved, the status page releases the document: purchase authorization (valid for 90 days), CRAF (Certificado de Registro de Arma de Fogo, the firearm registration certificate), permit or, for a carry license, the GRU (Guia de Recolhimento da União, the federal payment slip) for the fee, which is only issued after approval.

  7. If the application is denied, consider an appeal

    The decision is communicated electronically. IN DG/PF 201/2021 allows an appeal within ten days of the decision, addressed to the authority that decided. An appeal filed late is not considered.

Understand the service

To find out where a firearm application stands with the Polícia Federal (Federal Police), use the official Consultar Andamento de Processos (check application status) page, entering the application number and the CPF (Brazilian taxpayer number). That is where you see requests, attach documents, receive the decision and print the authorization, the registration or the GRU (Guia de Recolhimento da União, the federal payment slip).

What Sinarm is

Sinarm (Sistema Nacional de Armas, the national firearms system) is the Polícia Federal register that holds civilian firearms and the applications related to them. Today the status check is split across different systems:

  • Sinarm Defesa Pessoal (personal defense): applications for purchase, transfer, registration and renewal, transit permit, incident report and carry license, filed online from 22 April 2019.
  • Sinarm-CAC: applications from collectors, sport shooters and exceptional hunters (CAC) filed after the Polícia Federal took over this control, on 1 July 2025. The system is the former SisGCorp, inherited from the Exército (Brazilian Army) and renamed.
  • Portal PF: new Polícia Federal system for CACs, presented in 2026. It receives new applications for services already migrated. Applications opened in Sinarm-CAC stay there until the final decision.

Who needs it

Any person or company with an open application with the Polícia Federal about a firearm. When filling in the form, the applicant signs a statement committing to track the process through the status check. Not tracking it does not suspend deadlines.

Common mistakes that delay the application

  • Looking for the application in the wrong system (Defesa Pessoal, Sinarm-CAC or Portal PF).
  • Not opening the registered email: notifications arrive electronically and the deadline runs anyway.
  • Sending illegible or cropped files, or files belonging to someone else.
  • Opening a new application identical to the previous one without guidance, which may create a duplicate.
  • Missing the ten day appeal deadline.

After the application

  • The purchase authorization is valid for 90 days from issuance.
  • After buying the new firearm, the buyer has 15 days to request registration, according to IN DG/PF 201/2021.
  • Keep the application receipt, the paid GRU and the documents issued.
  • For system failures (not for legal questions), the Polícia Federal lists the support emails suporte.cgarm.dpa@pf.gov.br (Defesa Pessoal) and suporte.cac.cgarm.dpa@pf.gov.br (CAC), with a description of the error and a screenshot.

What changed recently

  • 1 July 2025: the Polícia Federal took over control of CAC firearms from the Exército, with Sinarm-CAC. The service schedule was set by Portaria DG/PF 19.040/2025, and the procedures by IN DG/PF 311/2025.
  • 23 December 2025: IN DG/PF 322/2025 amended IN 311/2025 and kept the ten year validity for CRs (Certificado de Registro, the CAC registration certificate) issued or renewed while Decreto 9.846/2019 was in force.
  • April 2026: the Polícia Federal published a staggered schedule, by birth month, for renewing CAC CRAFs issued before 21 July 2023, with deadlines from August 2026 to August 2027.
  • May to October 2026: the Polícia Federal launched Portal PF for CACs. CRAF renewal was the first service; other services are being migrated gradually. The official status page was updated on 20 May 2026.

How do I check the status of a firearm application with the Polícia Federal?

I lost the application number. What do I do?

Look for the receipt generated at the end of the form and the confirmation email sent to the registered address. If you cannot find it, contact the firearms control office for your region, using the emails listed on the Polícia Federal website, giving your name and CPF.

How long does the Polícia Federal take to review the application?

It depends on the service and the office. The official registration renewal page estimates about 30 days. Unanswered requests stop the application and may lead to it being archived.

My CAC application disappeared from the system. Was it cancelled?

Not necessarily. Applications opened in Sinarm-CAC stay there until the final decision and do not appear on Portal PF. First check which system the application was filed in.

What is the deadline to respond to a request?

The deadline is stated in the notification. For purchase applications, IN DG/PF 201/2021 allows ten days to complete the documentation or provide clarifications, or the application is archived.

Can I appeal if the application is denied?

Yes. IN DG/PF 201/2021 allows an appeal within ten days of the decision, addressed to the authority that decided. If it does not reconsider within five days, the appeal goes up to the higher authority.
