CAC Certificado de Registro (CR)
The CR is the Polícia Federal registration that allows collecting, sport shooting or exceptional hunting. Fee of R$ 100, valid for 3 years.
Look at the validity date on your CR. Remember: the application must be filed at least 30 days before expiry for the CR to stay valid while the PF (Polícia Federal, Federal Police) reviews it (IN DG/PF 311/2025, arts. 22 and 23). Start gathering documents 3 to 4 months ahead.
Every CRAF (Certificado de Registro de Arma de Fogo, the firearm registration certificate) in the collection must be valid for the revalidation to be accepted. If any CRAF is about to expire, renew it first on Portal PF, following the IN DG/PF 330/2026 calendar for older CRAFs.
Shooters: ask your club for proof of at least 8 training sessions or competitions every 12 months, for a representative firearm of each type you own, covering the 3 years of the CR. Hunters: gather the Ibama authorizations for the period.
Take a new psychological assessment and a new technical capacity test with PF accredited professionals. Get the criminal record certificates close to the application date.
Go through the official service page on gov.br (Iniciar button), with a silver or gold gov.br account. Fill in the application, attach the documents and generate the payment slip. Once the slip is generated, the data cannot be changed. Applications opened earlier in Sinarm-CAC continue there.
Pay the slip and track the application. Requests for more information must be answered within 30 calendar days. The PF may schedule an in-person inspection of the collection, lasting about 3 hours on average: missing it can lead to suspension or cancellation of the CR.
Once the revalidation is approved, the new CR, with the same number, is available for printing in the system. If it is denied, you can appeal by email to the PF office, giving your reasons and the application number.
Where to file the request: Request CR revalidation on gov.br (Polícia Federal) (opens in a new tab)
CR revalidation is the request made to the Polícia Federal (Federal Police, PF) to renew your CAC (colecionador, atirador desportivo e caçador: collector, sport shooter and hunter) Certificado de Registro (registration certificate) for another 3 years. It confirms that you still meet the requirements: good standing, reports, collection security, valid CRAFs (Certificado de Registro de Arma de Fogo, the firearm registration certificate) and, for sport shooters, habitual practice. The application must be filed at least 30 days before expiry, costs R$ 50,00 and, since October 2026, is made on Portal PF.
The CR of a collector, sport shooter or exceptional hunter is valid for 3 years, counted from the grant or the last revalidation (IN DG/PF 311/2025, art. 17). Revalidating means renewing that term while keeping the same registration number.
Note for holders of older CRs: CRs granted or revalidated while Decreto 9.846/2019 was in force (from 2019 to July 2023) keep their original term, usually 10 years. This was guaranteed by IN DG/PF 322/2025, of 23 December 2025.
Every CR holder whose validity is coming to an end and who wants to stay active. Those who do not plan to continue can request cancellation and dispose of the firearms (transfer or hand them to the PF).
In addition to the same documents required for the grant (IN 311/2025, art. 22):
Decreto 11.615/2023, art. 35 (as worded by Decreto 12.345/2024), divides firearms into types: handguns, rifled long guns and smoothbore long guns, of permitted or restricted use. If you have a pistol and a shotgun, for example, you must prove habitual practice with one firearm of each of these types, not with each caliber.
With no application on time, the CR is cancelled (IN 311/2025, art. 24). The PF notifies the holder, who has 90 days to transfer the firearms to an authorized person, hand them to the PF or apply for a new CR (art. 31). The deadline can be extended once, with a justified request. If there is no response, the PF reports the irregular situation to the judicial police.
Since 1 July 2025, the Polícia Federal (PF) is the agency that grants the CR, authorizes purchases and transfers, registers the firearms in the collection and issues the CACs' guia de tráfego (transit permit). The change was set by Decreto 11.615/2023 and organized by Portaria DG/PF nº 19.040/2025, which released the services in stages between July and August 2025. The detailed rules are in Instrução Normativa DG/PF nº 311/2025, in force since 1 July 2025.
The Exército (Brazilian Army) keeps some roles: registering shooting entities, the final review of restricted-use firearms (after PF authorization), imports and ammunition reloading. The fees for these services are still those of Lei 10.834/2003 (Taxa de Fiscalização de Produtos Controlados, the controlled products inspection fee).

Direct answers to the most common questions about this service.
The application must be made at least 30 days before expiry (IN DG/PF 311/2025, art. 22). Filed within that period, the CR stays valid until the PF decides. Since reports, certificates and club records take time, start getting organized 3 or 4 months ahead.
Yes. IN DG/PF 322/2025, published in December 2025, guarantees that CRs granted or revalidated while Decreto 9.846/2019 was in force remain valid for the term originally granted. Revalidation will take place when that term ends, under the current rules.
A sport shooter's CR is not revalidated without proof of at least 8 training sessions or competitions every 12 months, for a representative firearm of each type. In that case, a new CR can only be requested after 12 months. The only exception is proven force majeure, at the PF's discretion.
At revalidation, the shooter must bring the collection in line with the proven level. Excess firearms must be transferred or handed to the PF within 90 days of notification. Restricted-use firearms bought before Decreto 11.615/2023 are an exception under art. 79 of the decree.
No. An expired CR with no revalidation application filed on time is cancelled. You will be notified and have 90 days to transfer or hand over the firearms, or apply for a new CR, meeting all the requirements of a first grant.
The fee is R$ 50,00 for individuals (Lei 10.834/2003). Add the psychologist, instructor and certificates. If any CRAF (firearm registration certificate) in the collection has expired, renewing it costs R$ 88,00 per firearm.
