CAC CRAF renewal in 2026: deadlines and step by step on the PF Portal

If you are a CAC (collector, sport shooter or hunter) and your firearm's CRAF was issued before July 21, 2023, the renewal follows a calendar based on your birth month. Those born in October have until November 3, 2026 to apply for renewal on the Services Portal of the Federal Police (Polícia Federal, PF). The fee is R$ 88.00 (Brazilian reais) per firearm, and the application requires criminal record certificates, a psychological assessment and proof of technical capability.

Warning: missing the deadline makes the registration irregular and opens the way to revocation and seizure of the firearms. This text is for information only and does not replace legal advice or the Federal Police.

What is the CRAF and why are so many expiring now?

The Firearm Registration Certificate (Certificado de Registro de Arma de Fogo, CRAF) is the document that proves each firearm is registered in Sinarm, the PF's National Firearms System. For collectors, sport shooters and exceptional hunters (CACs), it is valid for 3 years, under article 24, item I, of Decree 11.615/2023 (Decreto 11.615/2023).

In article 80, sole paragraph, the same decree also applied the 3 years to existing CAC CRAFs, counted from July 21, 2023. As a result, all these older registrations would expire together in July 2026. Do not confuse this with the revalidation of the CR (Registration Certificate, the CAC's own registration), which has its own procedure: see the CR revalidation guide.

According to a PF news release of April 9, 2026, more than 1.5 million registrations were due to expire at the same time. To avoid a backlog, the PF published Normative Instruction (Instrução Normativa, IN) DG/PF No. 330 in the Official Gazette (Diário Oficial da União, DOU) of April 9, 2026, with a staggered calendar.

Who falls under the IN 330 calendar?

A CRAF falls under the calendar if it meets both conditions of the new article 81-A of IN 311/2025:

• it was issued to a collector, sport shooter or exceptional hunter before July 21, 2023;
• it was valid on July 20, 2026.

CAC CRAFs issued after July 21, 2023 follow the general rule of article 69 of IN 311: apply for renewal at least 30 days before the expiry date printed on the document.

What is the CRAF renewal deadline by birth month?

The deadline depends on the day and month of the owner's birthday. The table below is Annex I of IN 330, checked in the DOU on October 19, 2026.

IN 330 calls this date the "deadline for submitting the renewal application and final date of current validity". In other words, it is the last day to file the application and also the last day of validity of the old CRAF.

Annex I says "February 1 to 28" and does not mention the 29th. Anyone born on February 29 should confirm the date with the PF before planning.

Since the date depends on the owner's birthday, it is the same for all of that owner's older CRAFs. In the form, you select the firearms to renew, and the payment slip adds up the fee for each one.

Does the CRAF stay valid until the deadline?

Yes. Paragraph 2 of article 81-A says these CRAFs "will remain regular in Sinarm for all legal purposes" until the Annex I deadline.

Paragraph 4 adds a warning: the longer period "does not exempt the owner from meeting, throughout the period, the legal requirements of good standing and technical capability, under penalty of revocation at any time".

Where do I apply for CRAF renewal?

The application is filed on the PF Services Portal, launched on July 23, 2026. CAC CRAF renewal was the platform's first service, according to the PF news release on the portal launch.

The path indicated by the PF is: Federal Police portal, Carta de Serviços > Armas > Serviços CAC, option "Obter Renovação de Certificado de Registro de Arma de Fogo para Caçador Excepcional, Atirador Desportivo e Colecionador".

Access requires a gov.br account (the Brazilian government login) at silver or gold level, according to the service page checked on October 19, 2026.

Which documents does the PF require?

The list below comes from the official gov.br page for the CRAF renewal service, updated by the PF on October 7, 2026. It follows article 15 of Decree 11.615 and article 69, paragraph 1, of IN 311.

For everyone:

• personal identification document;
• criminal record certificates from the Federal, State or Federal District, Military and Electoral Courts;
• proof of lawful occupation;
• proof of permanent residence;
• proof of the second storage address for the collection, if any;
• collection security statement (declaração de segurança do acervo, DSA): a safe or secure locked place, firearms stored unloaded and measures to prevent access by anyone under 18;
• psychological fitness report, issued by a psychologist accredited by the PF;
• proof of technical capability, issued by a firearms instructor accredited by the PF;
• proof of fee payment.

Depending on the activity:

• sport shooters and hunters: proof of membership in a shooting or hunting entity (collectors are exempt);
• sport shooters: proof of participation in training sessions and competitions, as set out in article 35 of Decree 11.615.

The decree requires certificates from the places of residence in the last 5 years (article 15, paragraph 4). Anyone who lived in more than one city or state in that period needs certificates from each place.

How much does CRAF renewal cost?

The CRAF renewal fee is R$ 88.00 per firearm, according to the PF fee table and the service page, checked on October 19, 2026.

The payment slip is generated in the form itself, and the amount matches the number of firearms selected in the application. The psychological and technical capability assessments are paid separately, directly to the professional.

How to renew the CRAF on the PF Portal, step by step

1. Check your deadline in the table above, using your birth day and month.
2. Gather the documents on the list in digital format. Make sure the certificates and reports are still valid.
3. Log in to the PF portal with a silver or gold gov.br account and follow Carta de Serviços > Armas > Serviços CAC.
4. Open the CRAF renewal service and select the firearms you will renew.
5. Fill in the form and attach the documents. Review everything before moving on.
6. Generate the payment slip and pay the fee. Once the slip is generated, the application data cannot be changed.
7. Track the application. The PF estimates up to 60 calendar days.
8. If the application is denied, send an appeal by email to the responsible PF office, with your reasons and the application number.

If the system fails, the PF advises sending an email to suporte.cac.cgarm.dpa@pf.gov.br with a screenshot of the error, the date, time, name and CPF (Brazilian taxpayer number). This channel does not answer legal questions.

What happens if I miss the deadline?

Paragraph 3 of article 81-A requires applying the measures in article 26 of Decree 11.615, "without prejudice to the applicable criminal penalties". Under article 26, the firearm owner is notified electronically and has 60 days to choose one option:

• renew the registration;
• transfer the firearm to another person, once the legal requirements are met;
• surrender the firearm to the PF, with compensation, according to the regulations.

If nothing is done after the notice, the PF starts the revocation of the CRAF, with immediate seizure of firearms, accessories and ammunition. The owner is subject to the crimes in articles 12 and 14 of Law 10.826/2003 (the Disarmament Statute), as applicable.

While the situation is irregular, the owner also cannot buy firearms or ammunition or issue or renew a passport (article 26, paragraph 2).
